Guidelines for Poster Presentations

Thank you for investing your time and expertise in the National Council for Science and the Environment. We look forward to your participation in the NCSE Annual Conference. This page offers tips and tools that can help you make the most of your poster and your time at the conference. For questions regarding your session email  


All presenters must be registered for the Annual Conference to participate in your sessions.


  • Posters should be 4x8 feet and landscape orientation.  You may fill that space with one larger poster of many small posters/papers.

  • NCSE will provide thumbtacks for hanging your poster.

  • All poster presenters have been assigned a poster number. A list of poster assignments will be available near the poster boards. Place your poster on the board with the corresponding number. 

  • No audiovisual equipment should be used during a poster presentation.

  • Presenters will be required to stand by their poster boards at specific dates and times to talk directly with attendees.

  • Presentations should be taken down by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8. Display materials not removed will be discarded.

Tips For Poster Development

  • Posters should be easy to follow, graphically appealing and able to be read in 5-10 minutes.

  • Titles should be no smaller than a fingernail (~ 1 inch) when printed

  • Presenters should aim for 700-1200 words on their poster

  • Presenters should minimize their use of acronyms and jargon. This conference attracts a diverse audience with a range of scientific backgrounds.
