2019 EnvironMentors National Science Fair

Each summer, NCSE hosts the EnvironMentors National Science Fair and Awards Ceremony. Up to three students from each of our EnvironMentors chapters travel to Washington, D.C., to present their research and compete for college scholarships. The National Fair is an opportunity for students to learn more about our nation’s capital, to meet fellow EnvironMentors students, and learn the role science plays in environmental decision-making. Find out more about the EnvironMentors program.

The 2019 National Fair will take place at the Charles Sumner School Museum and Archives. Built in 1872, the Sumner School is one of the first public elementary school buildings for African Americans in Washington, D.C. and quite possibly the earliest school building of its architectural magnitude in the United States. In the 1970s, the school was  renovated and chartered the Charles Sumner School Museum and Archives, the official museum, archives, and repository for artifacts and documents pertaining to the history of the development and evolution of public education in Washington, D.C. The Sumner Museum is the first and only of its kind in the United States.

The EnvironMentors Scholarship Fund supports awards presented at the National Science Fair and Awards Ceremony. Scholarships awarded at the National Fair help students as they transition to college by providing funding for tuition, books, and other college expenses. The Scholarship Fund is sustained by individual donors, with 100 percent of your gift going directly to students.

NCSE is seeking volunteer judges for the 2019 National Fair. NCSE looks for individuals that have a passion for science and a working knowledge of the scientific method. Previous judges have been professionals working in environmentally-related fields across sectors including federal agencies, academia, and non-profit organizations. As a judge, you will be responsible for spending an equal amount of time with several students to learn about their research project and evaluate their work.

The judging period will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3.
