Gabbie Batzko is an NCSE Drawdown USA Scholar. She will help NCSE build and solidify the NCSE Drawdown USA network and support interested universities in integrating the principles of Project Drawdown into their Research Undergraduate Experiences (REUs). Gabbie will work to develop resources to help interested universities understand Project Drawdown and to foster connections between those interested in implementing Project Drawdown’s ideas in the United States. Gabbie was an inaugural Penn State Drawdown Scholar where she wrote sustainability curriculum for the SEDTAPP program within the College of Engineering. She was able to present her research in the capacity of an Innovation Speaker at the inaugural Drawdown: Research to Action conference and the UN’s Day of Peace Student Observance, themed Climate Action for Peace.
Gabbie recently graduated from Appalachian State University where she studied sustainable technology, sustainable development, and political science. She has been dedicated to helping her university grow its sustainability initiatives through the Renewable Energy Initiative, the Student Government Association, and Climate Action Planning. She looks forward to continuing these initiatives and her education at Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in the fall of 2021.
